About The Position

The position involves providing swim instruction and maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for participants at the YMCA. Instructors are expected to wear appropriate aquatic attire, including an identifiable instructor shirt and bathing suit, and to provide friendly, courteous service to all members, clients, and volunteers. Responsibilities include instructing assigned classes, maintaining communication with participants and parents, evaluating swimming levels, and keeping accurate attendance and class records. Instructors will also be responsible for promoting YMCA values and ensuring the safety of all swimmers in the pool area.

Requirements

• Weekday availability between 4PM - 7PM and weekend availability between 9AM - 1PM
• Minimum 16 years of age
• Provide quality swim instruction in-line with YMCA Swim Lessons Curriculum
• Willing to obtain proper training certifications
• Maintain accurate records for swim participant progress
• Ensure communication to caregivers regarding expectations, skill progress, next steps, etc
• Work as part of a team committed to building confidence, friendships and skills among participants
• Actively work to be a dependable team member and coach
• Attend staff meetings

Responsibilities

• Wear appropriate aquatic attire including identifiable instructor shirt and bathing suit
• Provide friendly, courteous, safe service to all members, clients, and volunteers of the Y
• Instruct assigned classes
• Maintain communication with class participants and parents
• Explain class and pool procedures to program participants
• Evaluate swimming levels
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings
• Maintain updated certifications as required by OCY
• Keep accurate attendance and class records
• Distribute and collect parent evaluations at assigned times with results given to the Aquatic Coordinator
• Actively recruit members for OCY
• Promote the values of the YMCA's Character Development of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
• Communicate to all program participants and all members all program and membership promotions
• Establish and maintain supervision of pool area and swimmers
• Enforce pool rules to staff and all swimmers
