About The Position

The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons in compliance with the YMCA of the USA guidelines and levels, ensuring the safety and engagement of swim lesson participants during the swim lessons program.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for safety of all swimmers during lesson and for the interpretation and enforcement of all pool rules
• Reports to work in uniform a minimum of ten minutes prior to assigned shift to receive communications and instructions from supervisor
• Conducts classes according to the YMCA of the USA Aquatic Program, adapted for local conditions
• Ensures efficiency of the lesson program through adherence to standards for progression and honest evaluation of student's abilities
• Attends all scheduled classes within a session; secures a substitute and provides lesson plans when absence is unavoidable
• Promotes participation in the Y Swimming Lessons program
• Assists the Swim Director or other assigned associate with administrative tasks
• Prepares the program/service area with necessary equipment and returns all equipment to proper storage
• Actively engages, orients and assists all participants when not actively teaching
• Focuses on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities
• Promotes a professional image and maintains a clean and safe environment at all times
• Works with a diverse population, all ages, genders, and sexual orientations
• Attends and actively participates in all assigned meetings
• Incorporates the four character values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and adheres to the YCM Code of Conduct
• Communicates the Y mission and objectives to the community
• Assists in all other areas as assigned.
