The Swim Instructor at the Y in Central Maryland is responsible for teaching swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, ensuring the safety and engagement of participants during the swim program. This role involves conducting classes, promoting participation, and maintaining a clean and safe environment while embodying the YMCA's core values.

  • Teach swim lessons in compliance with YMCA guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety of all swimmers during lessons and enforce pool rules.
  • Conduct classes according to the YMCA Aquatic Program, adapting as necessary for local conditions.
  • Evaluate students' abilities honestly and adhere to progression standards.
  • Attend all scheduled classes and secure substitutes when necessary, providing lesson plans.
  • Assist the Swim Director with administrative tasks.
  • Prepare the program area with necessary equipment and ensure proper storage after use.
  • Engage and assist participants when not actively teaching.
  • Promote quality experiences and engagement within programs and activities.
  • Maintain a professional image and a clean, safe environment.
  • Work effectively with a diverse population of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Attend and participate in all assigned meetings.
  • Communicate the YMCA mission and objectives to the community.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certification (or O2 within 30 days of hire).
  • Preferred Lifeguard certification.
  • Successful completion of the Y in Central Maryland swim test.
  • Flexible schedule including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Completion of new associate training (including Child Abuse Prevention) before scheduled to work.
