About The Position

Thompson Rivers Parks & Recreation District’s is seeking a fun and energetic individual that can help us provide a healthy, happy community through people, parks, programs and partnerships! This individual will work with youth ages 6–18, focusing on skill development, water safety, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. This position supports swim practices, skill development, and swim meets in a positive and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Frist Aid/CPR/AED certification required or willing to obtain prior to the season start.
  • Strong swimming ability with demonstrated knowledge of swim techniques, water safety, and stroke development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic swim techniques, water safety, and stroke development (or willingness to learn).
  • Ability to effectively instruct and engage youth swimmers, particularly ages 6-18, in a safe and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Willingness to continue developing coaching techniques and knowledge
  • Strong communication, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships with participants, parents/guardians, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations, using sound judgment and safety protocols.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic, and patient, with a genuine desire to work with children in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to attend all required coaches meetings and trainings as scheduled by the Aquatics Department.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous swim coaching, teaching, or competitive swimming experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead swim practices focused on stroke development, endurance, technique, and overall skill progression.
  • Provide age-appropriate instruction while promoting safety, confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive team environment.
  • Develop and implement structured practice plans and season training schedules.
  • Coordinate and oversee swim meet participation, including scheduling, lineup creation, and team readiness.
  • Ensure timely attendance and preparedness for all practices, meets, and team events.
  • Enforce Thompson Rivers Parks & Recreation District’s participant and parent code of conduct.
  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents/guardians, and staff regarding schedules, expectations, and season updates.
  • Address and report issues related to facilities, equipment, participant behavior, or parent concerns to the Facilities Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Promote a fun, inclusive, and safe environment that supports athlete development and retention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
