The Swim Team Coach will support the Aquatics Director at The St. James in the coaching of U18 athletes. A hands-on approach is necessary to effectively manage the quality of experience of our participants and their safety. Applicants should be available on weekday mornings, afternoons and on weekends. The Coach will be helping coach either the STJ Swim Team or the Splash and Stroke Academy programs. They will also have the opportunity to coach private lessons if so desired. This position will report directly to the Assistant Swim Director at The St. James.

Requirements

  • Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED required.
  • Applicant must have 2+ years of experience as a swim instructor.
  • Must be available on weekday mornings/afternoons and on weekend mornings.
  • Must be comfortable teaching in the water and on land.
  • Must be able to plan their schedule and work within practice times based on need.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with parents and athletes.
  • Knowledgeable of safety training, procedures and best practices used throughout the sports and wellness industry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties in accordance with Company policies, practices and procedures.
  • Engage participants in interactive swim practices while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Provides instruction to coach participants through improved swimming skills and techniques.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to internal and external customers.
  • Supports the safety of all members, guests, and employees.
  • Must be able to attend morning practices and evening practices during the weekdays and a morning practice on weekends (usually no more than 1.5 hours of practice a day)
  • Must be a good communicator.
  • Must be comfortable writing workouts for varying levels of adult swimmers.
  • Must be able to commit to at least one year of coaching with STJ.
