About The Position

The Swedish Language Summer Camp Junior Counselor position at Concordia College is a seasonal role designed for individuals aged 16-17 who are passionate about working with children and sharing language and culture. Under the guidance of the camp dean, junior counselors will engage with campers in a variety of activities, teaching the Swedish language and cultural practices while fostering a supportive and fun camp environment. This role includes responsibilities such as co-teaching, leading games, and providing overnight supervision, all while living in a cabin with campers.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old and have completed junior year of high school.
• Completed two years of language study or equivalent knowledge of Swedish culture and activities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to model positive behaviors for younger children.
• Demonstrated maturity and good judgment.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience working with children.
• Previous attendance at Concordia Language Villages or another summer camp.

Responsibilities

• Teach language and culture to summer camp participants under the direction of the camp dean.
• Co-teach language through activities such as art, sports, and traditional culture.
• Co-lead games and activities to create a cabin community.
• Participate in all aspects of Village life, including meals, song times, and evening programs.
• Provide overnight supervision by living in a cabin with campers.
• Assist with light cleaning of the Village site to ensure a safe and hygienic space.
• Model desired behaviors and use of the target language for campers.
