About The Position

The Athletic Trainer plans and implements treatment programs for injured high school and/or middle school athletes according to the principles and practices of athletic training. Attends a minimum of three (3) events per week and daily practices to provide preventive athletic training services, as well as care for the injured athlete; communicates with the coaches, athletes, and parents regarding athlete injury, rehabilitation, and prevention; prepares written documentation pertaining to patient evaluation and treatment; schedules treatment sessions with athletes; assists in preparing and conducting inservice training and continuing education programs; may participate in Performance Improvement activities and processes; and is expected to support the mission, vision, and values of Olathe Medical Center, Inc.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training
  • CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer (AT) - State Board of Healing Arts upon Hire
  • Certified Athletic Trainer - Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC ATC) upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Conducts Athletic Trainer evaluation in accordance with education, training, professional codes of ethics and standards, and department policy and procedure.
  • Conducts patient interview and performs evaluation which consists of patient tests, measurements and assessments.
  • Analyzes evaluation findings to identify disabilities and establishes indications for an athletic training treatment program.
  • Plans treatment programs based on assessment of available patient data.
  • Establishes and carries out treatment programs based on evaluation results and ongoing reassessments of the patient.
  • Administers Athletic Training treatment which may include but is not limited to strength training to improve or maintain muscle function (isometric, progressive-resistive, functional activities) using weights, pulleys, exercise apparatus, assistive and supportive devices, etc.; range of motion exercises and/or stretching, muscle re-education; application of physical agents (light, heat, water and electrical stimulation); hydrotherapy.
  • Evaluates effects of treatments and adjusts treatments to achieve optimal benefits and is responsible for recommending adaptive and assistive equipment (e.g., ankle brace, etc.).
  • Educates patient and family in a timely manner.
  • Informs patient and family of problems, goals, estimated completion date, and treatment plan.
  • Instructs patient and family in home management procedures
  • Confers with physicians and other health care practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment programs and integrate athletic training treatment with other aspects of patient health care.
  • Schedules patient treatment times to meet patient needs and to maximize athletic trainer efficiency.
  • Prepares written documentation pertaining to patient evaluation and treatment sessions per Department Policy and Procedure.
  • Records the initial functional and clinical status of the patient in the evaluation report.
  • Records progress of the patient through required documentation.
  • Reports are neat and orderly and contain all required information.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
