About The Position

Private Equity Portfolio Data and Reporting (“PDR”) is a new team that will be launched within H.I.G.’s Finance and Operations Group. This team will create an operating model that provides efficient processes for portfolio company data collection across all of H.I.G.’s Private Equity strategies, encompassing 200+ portfolio companies across North America, Europe, and Latin America. The processes developed by this team will be critical to downstream reporting for H.I.G.’s Deal Teams, as well as Capital Formation, Investor Services, Finance, and Valuation Teams. This position and team will collaborate and work seamlessly with the Deal Teams (Front Office), Investment Operations (Middle Office), as well as Valuations and Performance Reporting Teams (Back Office). This role will report to the Global Chief Operating Officer. The role will be accountable for designing and executing a scalable, controlled, and data-driven operating model that supports our firm’s valuation, reporting, and investor obligations across the full global Private Equity platform.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of total experience with a minimum of 6+ years in private equity, preferably at a large-cap or upper-middle-market buyout firm with a centralized portfolio monitoring or portfolio operations function.
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Deep understanding of PE deal structures, portfolio company financial reporting, and valuation frameworks (ASC 820 / IPEV); familiarity with ILPA, Form PF, LP reporting standards, and Investment Advisers Act obligations.
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling portfolio data collection, reporting, or operations infrastructure within a private equity environment.
  • Hands-on experience with portfolio data management systems (Dynamo, Chronograph, 73Strings, or similar); track record building data governance policies and audit-ready workflows.
  • Highly independent, self-starter professional that can build and lead a team.
  • Takes full ownership and accountability of work product and leads by example in areas of attitude, attention to detail, urgency, cross-collaboration, process improvement, and quality of work.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; effective communicator and collaborator.
  • Advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, large data models); working knowledge of data engineering concepts and automation tools a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Company Data and Infrastructure: Design and implement a scalable operating model for collecting financial and operational data across all H.I.G. Private Equity portfolio companies globally, spanning across all PE strategies.
  • Establish standardized data templates, submission cadences, and data dictionaries developed in direct collaboration with portfolio company CFOs and their Finance Teams, and in coordination with Deal Teams.
  • Own the end-to-end data intake process, including validation, cleansing, exception management, and escalation protocols for late or inconsistent submissions.
  • Identify and implement technology solutions (e.g., data aggregation platforms, ERP integrations, emerging AI capabilities) to automate and streamline collection workflows.
  • Maintain a centralized Portfolio Data Management System (currently, Dynamo) that serves as the single source of truth for portfolio company data.
  • Portfolio Reporting & Analytics: Produce recurring monitoring reports (monthly/quarterly) on portfolio company KPIs, financial metrics, and operating performance for Deal Teams and senior leadership.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting packages supporting Capital Formation and Investor Services in LP reporting and fund marketing — including ILPA, quarterly portfolio company data collection, customized LP templates, and ad hoc requests.
  • Work with Finance and Compliance Teams on portfolio company data deliverables for regulatory filings (Form PF, etc.)
  • Deliver portfolio-level roll-ups and trend analysis across strategies, vintages, sectors, and geographies.
  • Support ad hoc analytical requests from Deal Teams, including variance analysis, scenario modeling, and portfolio benchmarking.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison between portfolio companies and internal stakeholders including Valuation, Investment Operations (Middle-Office), Performance Reporting, and Finance Teams.
  • Partner with the Valuation Team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial data required for quarterly fair value assessments.
  • Coordinate with Performance Reporting, Investor Services, and Capital Formation on LP data requests, Side and Diligence Letter obligations, and fund-level reporting requirements.
  • Work with Deal Teams to ensure portfolio monitoring frameworks reflect investment thesis milestones; coordinate Deal Team sign-off on submitted data and build out the policy and audit trail supporting that process.
  • Process Design & Governance: Build and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all portfolio monitoring workflows, ensuring repeatability and scalability as the portfolio grows.
  • Establish data governance standards including data quality controls, audit trails, and submission compliance tracking, in alignment with Investment Advisers Act and other applicable auditing and internal control frameworks and private equity valuation best practices (ASC 820 / IPEV guidelines).
  • Define and enforce escalation protocols for late, incomplete, or materially inconsistent submissions from portfolio companies.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort across the monitoring lifecycle.
  • Technology & Systems: Evaluate, implement, and manage portfolio monitoring platforms (e.g., Dynamo, Chronograph, 73Strings, or similar PE-focused tools).
  • Partner with IT and data engineering teams to build and maintain data pipelines that connect portfolio company submissions to downstream reporting systems.
  • Drive automation of manual reporting processes – explore AI enablement.
  • Ensure data systems meet internal controls, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Team & Stakeholder Management: Lead the build-out of the PDR team from inception — define roles, recruit, and onboard new team members, establish team operating norms, and manage outsourced relationships.
  • Manage relationships with portfolio company finance and accounting contacts, serving as a trusted and accountable point of contact.
  • Train portfolio company personnel on reporting requirements, templates, and submission processes.
  • Present monitoring results and operational updates to the Global COO, Fund Heads, and Deal Teams as required.
