About The Position

The Senior Vice President (SVP), Head of Financial Strategy, will lead the development and execution of the bank's financial strategy. This role involves overseeing financial initiatives, capital management, and process improvements to support long-term growth and sustainability. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the SVP will spearhead strategic finance initiatives, working collaboratively with the finance group and management leaders to enhance organizational effectiveness. The SVP will partner closely with the CFO and senior leadership to drive impactful projects and shape the financial direction of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field required
  • 15 years Experience in financial strategy, FP&A, or corporate finance roles, preferable within the banking or financial services industry required
  • Proven success in leading complex financial initiatives and projects
  • Strong expertise in financial modeling, capital managements, and regulatory compliance
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or CFA preferred
  • Prior Experience in investment banking or management consultant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Develop and implement the bank’s long-term financial strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Work with bank leadership to enhance management reporting, profitability analysis, and decision-making frameworks.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to drive profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Development of Finance Initiatives: Spearhead strategic initiatives for the CFO, focusing on optimizing financial processes, tools, and reporting frameworks.
  • Drive the execution of finance-led projects, including cost management, financial systems upgrades, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboratively develops business plans to take cross functional needs into account and engage senior leaders in the outcomes.
  • Partner with business unit leaders to ensure alignment of finance initiatives with broader business goals.
  • Strategic Projects and Organizational Enhancements: Work closely with the CFO to identify and execute enterprise-wide strategic initiatives that enhance operational and financial performance.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to address strategic challenges and drive organizational improvements.
  • Develop frameworks to assess and measure the impact of finance initiatives on business outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with the CFO, CEO, and Board of Directors to present financial insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external stakeholders, including regulators, investors, and analysts, to communicate the bank’s financial and strategic priorities.
  • Lead the development of investor materials and contribute to annual reporting processes.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Build and manage a high-performing financial strategy team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Oversees execution of functional plans, initiatives, resource requirements, and budgets, anticipating and managing impact on stakeholders outside the function.
  • Mentor and develop team members to enhance technical expertise and strategic thinking.
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance functions, ensuring operational excellence.
  • Stays abreast of external economic conditions and best practices.
  • Approves new approaches that enhance the function’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Risk and Compliance Oversight: Ensure all financial strategies and initiatives adhere to regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Support compliance, audit, and risk management efforts as required.
  • As a people manager at CoBank, you will be expected to manage and lead associates. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, associate performance management, talent strategy, workforce planning, change management, conflict resolution, and relationship management. You will drive and be accountable for the team’s development, alignment with the division’s objectives, as well as with CoBank’s strategy and mission.
