The Sustaining Mechanical Engineer I is a product support engineering role that will report to the Mechanical Engineer Manager within Special Hazards and Foam R&D. You will be supporting fire protection equipment for a variety of applications and industries. Activities include product support to the business by working with manufacturing, quality and technical services, working with regulatory approval agencies to maintain compliance to global standards and working in a global R&D organization to design, test and validate our products. You will have opportunities to revise and improve products, reduce product costs and implement your changes into the business. You will interface with many internal functional departments and external resources or customers as required for your product line responsibilities.

  • Support fire protection equipment for various applications and industries.
  • Work with manufacturing, quality, and technical services.
  • Collaborate with regulatory approval agencies to maintain compliance.
  • Design, test, and validate products in a global R&D organization.
  • Revise and improve products and reduce product costs.
  • Lead root cause analysis of design or manufacturing problems.
  • Communicate design specifications and test criteria.
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum).
  • Two years relevant work experience as a mechanical engineer.
  • Understanding of fundamental engineering theories, mathematics, mechanics, and physical science concepts.
  • Practical knowledge of best practices for manufacturing and design.
  • Ability to lead a small team and communicate effectively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.
  • Ability to write reports and convey detailed technical information.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA (design failure mode and effect analysis).
  • Functional knowledge of VAVE.
  • Experience with phase-gate design processes.
  • Ability for occasional travel.
  • Proficiency in MSOffice, PTC Creo, and Windchill.
