About The Position

Ryan Companies has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sustainable Design Intern in our Chicago office! This position requires a creative, innovative, collaborative and forward-thinking student enrolled in a design program focusing on Architecture or Interior Design. This person will be working under direct supervision of the Sustainability Team to gain experience in multiple areas of building analysis and ideation. The successful candidate will be willing to take specific direction on project and department activities and execute in a professional manner. Roles and Responsibilities Works under direct supervision of Sustainability Director, Sustainability Design Manager, and other design project team members to do the following tasks: Prepare models and conduct preliminary sustainability analyses on design options using Climate Studio Conduct site assessments and due diligence leveraging local codes, regulations, and climate conditions to recommend design solutions. Prepare visually compelling reports communicating technical results and project stories to project teams and their clients. Participating in design charrettes focused on delivering sustainability and design excellence. Works with the project team to create diagrams and collect supporting documentation for external reporting and green certification programs such as LEED. Solve problems and resolve technical issues. Assist Sustainability Director with research and preparing educational content for internal trainings. Participates in design meetings, consultant meetings and project team meetings. Performs tasks with a high level of collaboration. Organize and maintain project files, scan, copy, print, and transmit original working drawings of current projects. Open to learning through listening and asking questions of team members and mentor(s). Establishes and pursues annual goals; based on personal, professional and company growth in the industry. Contributes to Ryan culture through participation in office activities, initiatives and learning programs. Responsible for execution of Ryan’s yearly review and goal setting process based on personal and professional, development goals. Actively participates in Ryan Companies’ and Ryan A+E’s 5-year vision/initiatives and 1-year business plans and goals.

Requirements

  • You must be enrolled in a design program focusing on Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, or Civil Engineering.
  • Pursuing Professional education (Bachelor or Master’s degree or Technical degree programs) in Architecture or Interior Design.
  • Relevant professional or educational experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Submission of design and research portfolio that demonstrates design and research process and solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse team.
  • Revit, Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite knowledge required.
  • Knowledge of various software programs including Climate Studio, Ladybug/Honeybee, OneClick LCA, Enscape, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Willingness to learn various aspects of the design process including; Conceptual Design, Client Presentations, Building Codes, Documentation, Construction Administration, and Constructability.
  • Position requires verification of employment to work in the U.S.
