About The Position

The Sustainability and Youth Programs Intern will support the Museum’s environmental sustainability initiatives by assisting with the evaluation and development of engaging educational programs. This intern will contribute to programs such as Kids Science Camp, which is operated in partnership with the Museum’s sustainability partner, The Heritage Group. The intern may also support additional department programs, including StarPoint Summer Camp and a Juneteenth public event, by providing a sustainability lens. This role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of education, sustainability, and youth programming. Requirements

  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children required; experience with teens is a plus.
  • Academic background in education, sustainability, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and research skills.
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service.
  • Professional behavior and a responsible work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be available for Kids Science Camp from July 13-17.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with children, families, staff, and partners, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to move throughout Museum spaces and camp environments, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to participate in program activities and events, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to juniors, seniors, or graduating seniors entering the workforce.
  • Experience with teens is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Research environmental sustainability topics and assist staff with developing educational program content.
  • Support tracking and evaluation of sustainability-related programs and activities, including offering feedback and activity suggestions.
  • Collaborate with other teams on sustainability initiatives, which may include School Programs, Early Childhood, Interpretation, and Facilities.
  • Assist with preparation and logistics for Kids Science Camp, including evaluating activities and providing feedback.
  • Support Kids Science Camp family reception logistics.
  • Support relationships with the Museum’s sustainability partner, The Heritage Group, during Kids Science Camp planning and delivery.
  • Help monitor camp environments to maintain a safe and clean learning space.
  • Document work and contribute to updates of the intern manual, including best practices, tips, and internship information.
  • Assist with other department programs and initiatives as needed.
