About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Sustainability Manager to join our global team. This role focuses on improving efficiency and waste management for our US facilities and US based events. We have six locations across the US in NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and Detriot, and cater events that take place nationwide. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring sustainability initiatives, with a priority on waste to ensure our events are environmentally responsible and align with our sustainability goals and those of our customers. The role is based both office and on site, visiting our facilities and event locations. About DO & CO: We have a passion for hospitality culinary delights on every banquet floor and in the sky. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Bioresources management, Sustainability, or related field.
  • Proven experience in sustainability coordination, preferably in the events industry, experience with ISO 20121 or/and Ecolabel events is a bonus.
  • Strong knowledge of resource efficiency and waste management practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Experience in hospitality or event management
  • Willingness to travel globally and work on weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Professional certifications in sustainability (e.g., LEED, ISSP ).
  • Experience with international events and understanding of global sustainability standards.
  • Knowledge about food safety and hygiene.
  • Experience within (communal) catering, large-scale catering establishment.

Responsibilities

  • Waste Management:
  • Ensure waste management plans are aligned with internal departments.
  • Support the team with expertise for the planning of waste management, estimation of quantities and the resulting schedule for waste collection and disposal.
  • Coordinate waste management with stakeholders to ensure proper disposal and recycling of event waste.
  • Educate event staff and attendees on waste management practices.
  • Develop waste reduction and monitoring strategy together with suppliers and events team.
  • Audit, monitor, and report on resource usage to ensure compliance with sustainability goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Communicate sustainability goals and initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster partnerships with local communities, organizations, and suppliers to support sustainability efforts (e.g. Food donations).
  • Organize training sessions and workshops to promote sustainability awareness.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Conduct onsite audits and report results during debrief.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement based on data analysis.
  • Compliance and Best Practices:
  • Stay updated on relevant environmental regulations and industry best practices.
  • Ensure all events comply with local, national, and international sustainability standards.
