The Sustainability Intern will assist the Sustainability Coordinator with outreach, education, data collection, and priority projects within the Department of Parks and Recreation. This role involves supporting the daily operations of the sustainability program, engaging with the community, and contributing to various sustainability initiatives.

  • Assist in the daily operations of the sustainability program, including Urban and Community Forestry program and development of the Climate Action Plan.
  • Engage the community and perform site visits.
  • Attend neighborhood and community events.
  • Develop sustainability policies and assist with grant applications.
  • Identify project opportunities and research high priority sustainability projects.
  • Assist with customer service inquiries related to sustainability, trees, and climate projects.
  • Conduct surveys and essential functions related to the sustainability program.
  • Research grant opportunities for the sustainability coordinator.
  • Meet attendance requirements of the position, including potential night and weekend events.
  • Pursuing an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or a related field at an accredited University.
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
  • Basic knowledge of municipal sustainability initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to market and advertise effectively on the internet (websites/social media).
  • Ability to cooperate with private and public agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently and keep organized records.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and flexibility.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic computations and ability to make accurate calculations.
  • Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • $15.00 per hour compensation.
