About The Position

We are seeking a Sustainability Design Engineer to join our leadership team at a National Building Design Engineering firm. This role is pivotal in driving sustainability initiatives with a strong focus on energy modeling and building controls. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of building science and will be responsible for ensuring that all projects meet the highest standards of technical excellence while achieving client-specific energy and sustainability goals. The position can be based in Boston, MA, Charleston, SC, or Northfield, MN. As a Sustainability Design Engineer, you will work closely with project teams, including discipline leads, architects, owners, and other stakeholders, to guide the energy and sustainability aspects of design from project conception through completion. You will leverage our MEP building design expertise and enhance firmwide sustainability knowledge to establish our firm as the go-to resource for sustainability efforts in higher education, healthcare, science and technology, data centers, and mission-critical projects. Your role will involve technical leadership in HVAC design optimization, energy modeling, and decarbonization analysis, collaborating with other leaders in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. You will stay updated on emerging technologies and design strategies, delivering innovative solutions to meet client energy goals. Additionally, you will support a team of energy modeling experts and building energy auditors, ensuring compliance with ASHRAE standards and conducting lifecycle cost and economic viability analyses. Understanding sustainability certification programs such as LEED, Living Building Challenge, and Passive House will be essential, as will analyzing local, state, and federal ordinances related to building emissions and energy efficiency.
