About The Position

The Sustainability Coordinator at the University of Miami plays a crucial role in the design and implementation of sustainability initiatives and the sustainable operation plan for the university. This position is responsible for generating the university's yearly Green House Gas inventory and tracking, reporting, and analyzing sustainability data necessary for the implementation of the UM Sustainable Operation Plan on a monthly basis. The coordinator will utilize various research methods to analyze, report, and provide recommendations for corporate sustainability projects and programs, ensuring that proper sustainability benchmarks are established and maintained using the Sustainability Tracking and Assessment Rating System (STARS) measures, standards, and methodologies. In addition to data management, the Sustainability Coordinator serves as a liaison between the utilities platform reporting systems, Energy Star Portfolio Manager, and the Office of Sustainability's educational outreach tools. This role involves creating behavioral change outreach strategies for staff, faculty, and students, promoting and enhancing existing programs such as Green Lab, Waste Reduction and Diversion initiatives, Green Office, Green Events, Green Liaisons, and Green Athletics. The coordinator will also design new educational outreach programs utilizing the latest user-friendly digital tools. The position requires establishing ROI and savings targets for both educational and operational programs, assessing the effectiveness of the university's sustainability performance by regularly monitoring and benchmarking best practices from peer institutions. The Sustainability Coordinator will identify grants and other funding opportunities to support campus sustainability efforts and develop Sustainable Operation Project management plans, monitoring and reporting on project progress and milestones. Building strong relationships with other members of the Facilities Operation and Planning team and other university departments is essential, as is advising on alternate energy and water sources, consumption, and conservation measures. The role adheres to university and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding university assets.
