About The Position

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Fisheries Biologist 2 to serve as the Susquehanna River Biologist. This position is integral to the Bureau of Fisheries, Division of Fisheries Management, focusing on the management and enhancement of aquatic resources and fishing opportunities in the Susquehanna River region. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating, coordinating, and administering fisheries management activities across the Susquehanna River system, which encompasses the main stem, North Branch, and West Branch of the river. In this role, the Fisheries Biologist will work independently to conduct field investigations and studies that document the biological, chemical, physical, and social attributes of various fisheries. This data is crucial for formulating and updating management plans. The biologist will establish benchmark statistics to inform decision-making processes and assess various management techniques, including stocking, regulations, and habitat management. Additionally, the role involves educating and informing the public about fisheries management activities and objectives specific to the Susquehanna River system. The position also requires the collection of data through sampling, data entry, analysis, and reporting of results in accordance with Fisheries Management Division protocols and professional standards. As a lead worker, the biologist will participate in the hiring process, oversee assignments, and provide training and mentorship to lower-level technical fisheries workers. This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and may include travel both in and out of state. Telework options are available, provided the employee has a secure high-speed internet connection and works from an approved location within Pennsylvania.
