About The Position

At SPI, we’re not just mapping land—we’re helping shape the communities where people live, work, and grow. We’re hiring a Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) to join our Survey team and support a wide range of public and private sector projects across Texas. This is a development-focused role designed to help you grow toward professional licensure while gaining hands-on experience in both office and field surveying work.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of land surveying experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam
  • Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification or actively pursuing certification
  • Strong understanding of basic surveying principles and boundary concepts
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center
  • Ability to operate data collectors, surveying instruments, and related equipment
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work in both office and field environments
  • Enthusiasm for learning and growing in the profession

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation of boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction surveys
  • Performing deed research, title review, and boundary analysis under supervision
  • Processing and analyzing field data from GPS and conventional survey methods
  • Preparing plats, exhibits, legal descriptions, and survey drawings using CAD software
  • Supporting field crews with data collection and occasional field work
  • Maintaining organized project records, field notes, and survey documentation
  • Ensuring QA/QC standards are followed for all survey deliverables
  • Assisting with review of construction-related documents such as shop drawings and pay applications
  • Collaborating with project teams to support project schedules and deliverables
