About The Position

The Digital Practice and Technology Team is actively seeking a creative, talented Survey Technician for immediate employment in the Columbia, SC office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Land Surveying specific to engineering consulting services. This opportunity affords the ideal candidate the following: Exposure to a variety of large and complex projects including, but not limited to, Transportation projects, Water projects, Site Civil projects and more. Primary job functions include but are not limited to the following: Operation and care of all survey instruments including Total Station, level, and GPS. Will be responsible for performing property surveys, topographic surveys, construction stakeout and other survey projects for private, government and commercial clients. Read and understand survey notes, sketches, maps, deeds, as-builts, construction plans and drawings and records. Use appropriate survey equipment, conventional, GPS/GNSS and laser scanning, to efficiently and accurately perform a wide range of field survey procedures. Take survey field notes, sketches, and other written records on a daily basis. Participate in project meetings and communicate effectively with team members and clients. Perform QA/QC to verify that the data complies with the project requirements. Understand and follow all applicable safety procedures. Ability to read and understand survey notes, sketches, maps, deeds, as-builts, construction plans and other drawings and records. Creates survey field notes, sketches and other written records on daily basis Operates with a "team" attitude and communicates effectively Understands and follows all applicable safety procedures Relies on general to moderately complex knowledge of procedures, company policies, and business practices to plan and accomplish goals Works under general supervision of the Survey Crew Chief and the Survey Manager

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of land surveying experience and/or post HS education or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites, and as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review

Nice To Haves

  • DOT preconstruction survey knowledge or experience a plus
  • Experience with Federal and government clients a plus
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and sit as needed on project work sites.
  • Ability to safely navigate construction work sites, roads, buildings, and areas with uneven terrain
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% with occasional overnight travel
