About The Position

Van Cleef Engineering Associates, LLC (Van Cleef) is a dynamic, multi‐disciplined consulting civil engineering firm of Engineers, Certified Inspectors, Landscape Architects, Planners and Land Surveyors. With offices in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, we provide expertise in all of the major areas of civil engineering, municipal engineering, municipal planning, and land surveying. Our Hillsborough, NJ office has an opening for an experienced Survey Party Chief with a strong background in land surveying and construction layout.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in a related field preferred
Minimum of 5 years of field surveying experience, including prior experience leading survey crews
Strong knowledge of land surveying principles, procedures, and equipment
Proficient in the use of total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors
Ability to read and interpret survey plans, construction drawings, and specifications
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Highly attentive to detail and committed to accuracy and quality
Valid driver’s license required

Nice To Haves

New Jersey Surveying License is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

Lead survey field crew on a variety of projects including boundary, topographic, construction stakeout, and as-built surveys.
Perform field measurements using total stations, GPS, and data collectors
Set, recover, and verify survey control points and benchmarks
Perform construction layout and verify grades, alignments, and elevations
Maintain accurate and organized field notes, sketches, and electronic data
Ensure field work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards and project specifications
Coordinate with office staff regarding schedules, deliverables, and project needs
Review field data for accuracy and completeness prior to submission
Assist with training and mentoring junior field staff
