About The Position

The Instrument Person is responsible for supporting survey crews in collecting accurate field data for land development, infrastructure, and construction projects. This position works closely with the Survey Crew Chief to ensure precise and efficient data collection using advanced survey equipment and techniques.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
  • Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc).
  • Reliable transportation required and the ability to travel daily within assigned territory.
  • Travel may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months to 1 year of survey experience preferred; entry-level candidates considered.
  • Familiarity with GPS, total stations, and data collectors preferred.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate GPS equipment, total stations, and other surveying instruments to collect field data.
  • Assist the Survey Crew Chief with boundary, topographic, construction, and utility surveys.
  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Perform manual labor, including staking, marking, and setting up equipment.
  • Record field notes and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ensure all field work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and project supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Operates tools requiring fine motor skills.
  • Traverses construction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
  • Positions self to access tools and materials in various locations.
  • Ascends/descends into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection.
  • Travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
  • Remain in stationary position for extended periods.
  • Moves materials weighing up to 50 pounds periodically.
