About The Position

Dewberry is currently seeking a Survey Instrument Operator to work as a member of a survey crew based out of Dewberry’s Panama City, FL office. This individual will work outside daily performing boundary, topography, ALTA, right of way, powerline, gas line, and construction surveys for public and private clients. Applicant must be willing and able to travel, and be responsible, highly motivated, and detail oriented. Survey Instrument Operator complete a variety of professional assignments to facilitate the completion of surveys while learning the methods of the work. Requirements

  • Ability to repetitively stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes, in addition to ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces .
  • Ability to apply knowledge of land surveying to land surveying activities and techniques.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations accurately and record results legibly.
  • Ability to carry out written and oral directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to maintain favorable public relations.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn mathematics, survey computer programs, and survey computations applicable to the work.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn the use of mechanical drawing instruments or survey computer programs.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn the symbols of drafting.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn surveying instruments and equipment and their use and care.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn the principles and practices of land surveying.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn state law regarding the establishments of plats, property lines, and survey monuments.
  • Must pass DOT drug/alcohol testing and ability to pass a background check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check.
  • Must be willing and able to travel for out of town assignments.
  • Must be reliable and dependable.
  • Must be able to work 40+ hours per week or as required.
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors on all terrain and construction sites under all weather conditions, as required.
  • Must be able to stand up to five hours at a time.
  • Must have a High School Diploma (Minimum).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the field supervisor with all aspects of the daily crew workload.
  • Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations.
  • Supervise the survey crew in the absence of the crew chief.
  • Work independently as a one person crew as required.
  • Daily uploading and downloading of data collectors.
  • Operate survey total stations, data collectors and levels
  • Daily care and charging of instrumentation.
  • Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in technology.
