About The Position

Merrick & Company has a nationally recognized Geomatics Business Unit that is immediately seeking a Survey Instrument Operator to be based out of our Chamblee, GA office. Work week is Monday thru Thursday at 10 hours days with Fridays off. Hourly pay range for this position is $18.75 - $22 per hour. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience. Merrick & Company is seeking career and quality minded individuals for challenging projects including all types of Boundary, GPS, Photogrammetry, Easement/Right of Way, ALTAs, Topographic Surveys and Construction Layout. Successful candidate will work under direct supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor and party chief to complete surveys for various public and private clients including federal, state, and municipal institutions, developers, contractors, and private landowners.

Requirements

  • Must be willing and physically able to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel: Work will be located locally and regionally. Candidate may be required to travel Monday thru Thursday each week up to one (1) week at a time and occasionally up to three (3) weeks at a time.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: up to two (2) years of survey experience.
  • Proficient with basic survey field equipment.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment is a benefit.
  • Local candidates only.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize survey equipment (total station, tape measure, GPS, scanner, drone) to determine locations and elevations for various features.
  • Set stakes for boundaries, easements, construction, and other surveys.
  • Cut and clear brush, when necessary, utilizing a machete, brush hook or chain saw.
  • Keep survey truck supplied with equipment and supplies. Clean and organize vehicle and maintain equipment.
  • Complete other duties as required as directed by the Party Chief and Professional Land Surveyor.
