NV5 is seeking a skilled and dedicated Survey Field Technician to join our team, where you will play an essential role in capturing and delivering precise geospatial data that forms the foundation of successful project outcomes. Working closely with a collaborative team of land surveyors, engineers, and project managers, you will help provide accurate data that enables informed decision-making at every project stage—from initial planning through final execution. As a Survey Field Technician, you can expect to conduct detailed field surveys and measurements that directly support land development, construction, and diverse infrastructure initiatives. Your contributions will be pivotal in transforming project designs into reality, helping to lay the groundwork for sustainable and impactful development in the communities we serve.

  • Conduct field surveys to gather data related to land boundaries, topography, property lines, and other geospatial information using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.
  • Set up and operate surveying instruments and tools, ensuring they are properly calibrated and maintained for accurate measurements.
  • Take measurements, mark reference points, and establish benchmarks to guide future construction or land development activities.
  • Record collected data accurately, including field notes, sketches, and digital data, using specialized software and applications.
  • Assist in identifying property boundaries and land parcel information by interpreting legal documents and survey records.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues during field surveys.
  • Collaborate with land surveyors, engineers, and project managers to provide support and assist in the completion of surveying projects.
  • Maintain and repair surveying equipment as necessary, ensuring it functions properly and is in good working condition.
  • Review and verify data for accuracy and completeness, making necessary adjustments to ensure data integrity.
  • Generate survey reports and maps based on collected data to support project planning and decision-making.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require an associate degree or technical training in surveying).
  • Prior experience as a survey field technician or related survey fieldwork.
  • Proficiency in operating surveying instruments (Trimble total station), GPS equipment (GNSS), and related software.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or other survey-specific software is beneficial.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, carry equipment, and navigate rugged terrain.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision to ensure accurate data collection and measurements.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Awareness of safety procedures and the ability to prioritize safety during fieldwork.
  • Depending on the region, you may need a surveying technician certification or licensure, which can vary by state or country.
