About The Position

Hi-Way Paving is a general contractor specializing in concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation for highways and airfields. The Survey Field Manager, also known as a Survey Crew Manager, is responsible for overseeing field survey operations, managing a survey crew, and ensuring accurate data collection for construction projects. This role involves communication with on-site inspectors and project owners to meet survey and construction requirements. The position is based in Nashville, TN, or Charlotte, NC, and requires travel to other project locations as needed. Hi-Way Paving operates in several southeastern and midwestern states, performing work as a prime contractor and occasionally as a subcontractor for governmental agencies and private owners. Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and equipment
  • Past experience with survey and machine controls tools/equipment, such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors
  • Leadership and team management skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Technical proficiency with survey equipment and software
  • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases)
  • Willingness to travel 100% of the time, as needed
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of field surveying experience
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage survey crews across multiple projects and/or sites
  • Plan and coordinate daily field operations for the survey team, including scheduling and logistics
  • Ensure accurate data collection using survey equipment
  • Review field data for completeness and accuracy
  • Maintain safety standards and compliance
  • Train, mentor, and support survey team members
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers/Engineers, inspectors, and field teams to meet survey and machine control needs
  • Troubleshoot survey and other construction/field issues and challenges
  • Collaborate with project teams, project owners/representatives, and third parties (subcontractors) to resolve issues, ensure seamless operation, and adjust survey tasks, as needed
  • Work with equipment vendors and resources to procure and maintain survey-related tools and supplies
  • Help keep projects on schedule and aligned with broader field-operation needs
