About The Position

The Survey Crew Member III will be responsible for performing advanced technical and professional field survey work while serving as party chief for field surveys for the Wisconsin offices. This position will review surveys to determine the validity of the evidence and methods used and to ensure accurate survey information; maintain equipment and inventories.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Typically 8+ years
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of local government agency standards, specifically IDOT and Illinois Tollway.
  • Proficient with the operation of total robotic stations, data collectors, and GPS systems.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Supervises the work of less experienced staff; leads tasks and/or projects of moderate to advanced complexity.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb or balance, talk or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or control.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion
  • Work outside extensively and can be exposed to all types of weather.
  • Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field.
  • Required driving to job sites may result in a long commute.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Complete state-required competency.
  • Attend job-related seminars and workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains accurate survey measurements in a timely manner.
  • Directs or conducts surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties based on legal deeds and titles.
  • Creates plats of survey, plats of Highway, plats of easements, and other required documentation
  • Plan and conduct ground surveys to determine or stake ROW lines
  • Performs or supervises data collection, plats, boundary surveys, Alta surveys, stakeouts, exhibits, and write legals
  • Provides for the optimum use of electronic and computerized survey techniques in the conduct of surveys and coordinates with in-house and consultants to assure compatibility.
  • Assists the chief of surveys in preparing work schedules and determining the distribution of survey crew personnel among the various county projects.
  • Researches records and plans to obtain stationing and monuments for reference and starting points.
  • Maintains and repairs survey instruments and equipment.
  • Attains equipment calibration on a yearly basis or as needed in the interim.
  • Ensures survey activities comply with company and contract requirements and support the overall project schedule.
  • May recommend design changes to conform to field conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
