About The Position

The Survey Crew Chief is a field leadership role responsible for managing survey crews and overseeing the accurate and efficient collection of survey data for boundary, topographic, construction, and specialty surveys. This position ensures quality, safety, and productivity in field operations while coordinating closely with project managers and office staff. The Survey Crew Chief provides hands-on technical expertise, directs daily field activities, mentors team members, and serves as the primary point of contact for field execution.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
  • Pass a Federal Background Check for access to secure areas of Atlanta Airport
  • 7+ years of progressive survey experience, including leadership responsibilities
  • Proficiency with survey equipment and data collection software
  • Proven experience leading or supervising survey crews

Nice To Haves

  • Strong working knowledge of CAD/GIS integration with survey data.
  • Associate’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Experience coordinating directly with clients and contractors in the field.
  • Familiarity with UAV/drone-based survey data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage survey crews on boundary, topographic, ALTA, control, and construction staking projects.
  • Plan, assign, and oversee daily field operations to ensure work is completed on schedule and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Operate and supervise the use of survey equipment including total stations, GPS/GNSS, levels, and data collectors.
  • Perform real-time quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of collected data.
  • Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with company policies and field protocols.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to support performance and professional development.
  • Communicate field progress, issues, and resource needs to project managers and office staff.
  • Maintain and manage survey equipment, including coordination of repairs and calibrations.
