The Survey Crew Chief role involves daily commutes to various sites in a company-provided truck to conduct a range of survey activities including leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys. Key responsibilities include operating and adjusting Trimble survey equipment (total station, data collector, GPS), measuring distances, angles, and elevations, reviewing field calculations, and establishing vertical and horizontal control. The chief will also utilize Trimble equipment for utility point measurements, prepare accurate field notes and as-built drawings, maintain company-issued equipment and vehicles, adhere to safety protocols, interpret engineering plans, and contribute to the training and professional development of crew members.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a Survey Crew Chief role performing boundary, ALTA, Asbuilt, and Construction Staking surveys
  • Ability to effectively communicate with contractors, inspectors and team leaders.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans

  • Experience with Trimble equipment

Responsibilities

  • Commute to and from sites daily in a company-provided truck.
  • Perform survey activities such as leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate Trimble survey equipment including total station, data collector, and GPS equipment.
  • Measure distances, angles, and elevations for staking purposes.
  • Reviewing survey field calculations and adjusting when needed.
  • Locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control.
  • Utilizing Trimble equipment to measure all utility points including curb and gutter, water & sewer, storm drain, and paving.
  • Prepare accurate field notes and complete as-built drawings.
  • Responsible for maintaining work-issued vehicles, laptops, and survey equipment.
  • Follow Atwell’s safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
