The geomatics crew chief oversees the daily field operations of a land survey crew. This role involves determining the most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for field surveys ranging from primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys, as needed. The crew chief is proficient with documentation of work performed and sketches, and communicates daily with the Project Surveyor and technician regarding the land survey project schedule and work progress. Interaction with client representatives and landowners is also a key responsibility. The crew chief must read and interpret construction drawings/specifications and understand all aspects of the land survey project specifications and tolerances. Additionally, they are responsible for preparing daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork, as well as maintaining the land surveying vehicle and field equipment. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
