At Atwell, we get it. We know great surveyors don’t just collect data, they build the foundation every project stands on. We’re looking for a Survey Crew Chief who loves being in the field, solving problems, and leading crews on some of the most exciting power and renewable energy projects happening in the country. Think big - expansive solar fields, large boundary surveys, and wide-open landscapes that let you do what you do best: precision work with purpose.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience working as a Survey Crew Chief
  • Strong understanding of large boundary surveys and the ins and outs of energy project work.
  • Confidence working with Trimble equipment and Trimble Business Center.
  • Solid communication skills - you know how to keep your team in sync.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and survey data like a roadmap.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for bigger projects (and the occasional adventure).

Responsibilities

  • Lead field operations on large boundary and renewable energy sites, setting control, staking, and ensuring data accuracy from start to finish.
  • Roll out each day in your company truck, heading to new sites that challenge and reward your technical skills.
  • Operate and maintain Trimble gear (total stations, GPS, data collectors) like the pro you are - precision matters, and your work shows it.
  • Perform boundary, topo, construction layout, and as-built surveys that set the tone for successful projects.
  • Double-check and fine-tune field calculations - because “close enough” isn’t part of your vocabulary.
  • Keep clean, detailed field notes - your future self (and the CAD team) will thank you.
  • Work independently or with a trusted crew member - either way, you take ownership and pride in the results.
  • Mentor newer surveyors - pass on your know-how, your tricks of the trade, and your pride in doing the job right.
  • Enjoy paid training, survey conferences, and development opportunities that keep your skills sharp and your career moving forward.
