About The Position

WSP is seeking a Survey Party Chief to join their Albuquerque, NM location. This role involves supervising survey crews, maintaining accurate field notes, and operating advanced surveying equipment. The position offers opportunities for ongoing training and mentoring within a supportive company culture, with a focus on local work and minimal travel requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in surveying
  • Prior surveying experience with easements, rights of way, plats, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and GPS surveys
  • Excellent communication skills and field note-taking abilities
  • Good math skills and ability to work as a one-person crew as necessary
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  • Experience with both public and private sector work
  • Competent self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities
  • Must successfully complete WSP's Motor Vehicle screening, including a valid Driver's license
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Leica Based Survey Equipment
  • Knowledge of various DOT survey and SUE experience
  • Transmission and Distribution Line survey experience
  • Knowledge of FAA sUAS Part 107 requirements and sUAS Pilot Licensure
  • Associates Degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology or related areas
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Survey Crew (1-2 staff crews)
  • Keep accurate, organized and complete field notes
  • Communicate with office staff on a daily basis
  • Operate and maintain robotic instruments, total stations, data collectors, GPS, and digital levels
  • Use and obtain historical data from property/utility records, deeds, land/property titles, and structural plans for land surveying activities
  • Follow state-specific standards of practice to provide professional survey assistance
  • Assist with writing surveying reports summarizing site inspection and survey findings
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using photographs, sketches, calculations, and technical drawings
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals on assigned survey tasks
  • Perform weekly instrument calibrations to maintain accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with WSP and client-specific safety guidelines
  • Engage in occasional contact with client personnel to schedule project survey activities
  • Remain current in the latest survey knowledge, techniques, and practices
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources
