We offer a friendly, professional atmosphere with excellent benefits and a salary commensurate with experience.   Job Description:  The Survey and Geospatial Practice Leader is responsible for directing, managing, and growing the Survey and Geospatial Practice across all applicable regions. This role provides executive-level leadership for traditional land surveying, geomatics, geospatial services, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), mapping, remote sensing, LiDAR, and emerging geospatial technologies. This position oversees business development, financial performance, operational excellence, staff development, technical quality, and client relationship management for all survey and geospatial-related services. The Practice Leader ensures alignment with company strategic initiatives and drives innovation in technology-enabled data acquisition, modeling, and asset management solutions. This role requires collaboration with Practice Leaders, Group Leaders, Project Managers, and Corporate Services to ensure seamless integration of survey and geospatial services into multidisciplinary projects. Travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in surveying, geomatics, or geospatial services.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of leadership and team management experience.
  • Must be a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in at least one state. Multi-state licensure preferred or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the financial performance of a practice or business unit.
  • Extensive knowledge of GNSS, total stations, LiDAR systems, terrestrial scanning, hydrographic equipment, and UAS platforms.
  • Experience with GIS platforms (ESRI suite), CAD platforms (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation/OpenRoads), and point cloud processing software.
  • Familiarity with SUE standards (ASCE 38-22) and utility mapping best practices.
  • Strong business development and client relationship skills.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and professional liability considerations.
  • Valid Driver’s License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier.
  • Travel required as necessary, including occasional overnight travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of BIM integration and digital twin concepts is preferred.
  • Must be a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in at least one state. Multi-state licensure preferred or ability to obtain through reciprocity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the Survey and Geospatial Practice in alignment with company strategic objectives.
  • Develop and execute annual business plans including revenue forecasts, staffing plans, capital equipment investments, and technology initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities in geomatics, LiDAR, hydrographic surveying, UAS/Drone services, mobile mapping, and subsurface utility engineering, locating, and mapping.
  • Solidify and expand service offerings in subsurface utility engineering (SUE), 3D laser scanning, reality capture, asset inventory data collection, and geospatial data capture and management.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments within the survey, geomatics, and geospatial data-focused industries.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for data governance, geospatial accuracy standards, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Federal, State, and Local public agencies, municipalities, DOTs, utility owners, transit agencies, energy clients, private developers, and other clients that rely on these services.
  • Lead proposal preparation efforts, including scopes of work, fee development, technical approaches, and staffing plans.
  • Participate in interviews, industry events, and professional organizations to enhance company visibility and reputation.
  • Support capture planning and go/no-go decisions in coordination with executive leadership.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage client expectations for survey and geospatial services.
  • Manage the financial performance of the Survey and Geospatial Practice, including revenue, profitability, backlog, utilization rates, and capital expenditures.
  • Oversee an organizational structure that controls the scheduling and allocation of field crews, SUE technicians, and office staff in the Practice.
  • Ensure effective lifecycle management of equipment necessary to support the service offering of the Practice.
  • Implement operational efficiencies and standardized workflows to enhance productivity and profitability.
  • Monitor project performance to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ensure compliance with state surveying laws, professional standards, and applicable federal, state, and municipal requirements.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of geospatial data standards, metadata protocols, and interoperability with BIM, CAD, and digital asset management platforms.
  • Support integration of survey data into digital delivery, BIM workflows, and digital twin environments.
  • Lead a diverse team of licensed surveyors, project surveyors, party chiefs, SUE professionals, CAD technicians, and field personnel.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop technical and managerial staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Identify and implement training needs to stay current with emerging geospatial technologies and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct performance reviews and succession planning initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state safety regulations, and company safety programs.
  • Develop and enforce QA/QC procedures for field data acquisition, processing, and deliverables.
  • Oversee risk mitigation strategies related to surveying liability, boundary determinations, and utility mapping accuracy.
