The Surplus Assistant Manager at the University of Washington is responsible for overseeing the Surplus Property program, ensuring workplace safety, compliance, financial management, and personnel management.   • Serve as liaison between UW Surplus and Moving Services, EH&S, and other campus partners to ensure safe handling and disposal of surplus materials.
  • Provide health and safety leadership and direction to staff and clients.
  • Oversee compliance with OSHA-WISHA and University safety policies.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Manage financial activities related to the Surplus program, including billing and revenue tracking.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of program staff, including hiring and training.
  • Engage with business partners to foster a culture of service excellence.
  • Oversee marketing and outreach for the Surplus program, including online auctions and retail store inventory.
  • Implement continuous process improvement initiatives and develop metrics for program effectiveness.
  • Manage significant projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree or directly related experience may be substituted for education.
  • Two years of experience in managing surplus operations or related fields.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other software.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Experience with process improvement tools such as Lean or Balanced Scorecard.
  • Experience in environmental stewardship practices and waste reduction solutions.
