Requirements

  • Graduate Degree, required.
  • Masters of Physician Assistant Studies, Masters of Nurse Practitioner, or similar degree conferred by an accredited program, such as NCCPA and ARC-PA; required.
  • One year of experience working in general or other surgical subspecialty, emergency/inpatient medicine or comparable experience; preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years experience, preferred.
  • Current NP or PA license in appropriate state, registry required w/state medical board, current DEA registry and ACLS (not required for the in-office only NP/PA) and BLS; required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
  • Proficient in the performance of clinic and bedside general surgery procedures, including but not limited to: Laceration repair, Incision and drainage of large abscesses, Punch biopsies, Removal of superficial skin lesions.
  • Comfortable working in the operating room, clinic and surgical wards.
  • Thorough skill in obtaining a surgical history and conducting a physical examination.
  • Comfortable writing complete daily progress notes, consultation notes, and writing discharge summaries.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • General computer knowledge is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, yet in collaboration with physicians, nurses and care team.
  • Ability to use problem-solving, decision making, and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing clinical environment.
  • Must participate in call rotation.
