Under the direction of the Unit Manager, RN Clinical Operations Coordinator, and/or RN Service Leads, the Surgical Technologist works directly under surgeon and physician guidance to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist must possess expertise in the theory and application of aseptic technique and demonstrate the ability to integrate knowledge of human anatomy, the surgical process, and procedural instrumentation, including advancing technologies. The technologist anticipates the needs of surgeons and physicians through continuous attention to the surgical process and patient condition to promote a safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical outcome. These skills support the performance of minimally invasive, invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic surgical procedures across a variety of surgical specialties. The Surgical Technologist provides patient care primarily through service to the surgeon or physician. They are expected to understand the procedure being performed, anticipate team needs, and maintain the sterile field to ensure quality patient care. The Surgical Technologist is accountable for maintaining current skills and knowledge consistent with their assignments and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
