About The Position

Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, performs the duties of a primary or secondary surgical technologist in surgical procedures. Women's Services - Muskogee Campus Location: Muskogee, Oklahoma 74401 Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Use and Patient Protection Act (OMMA), a safety sensitive position is defined as any job that includes tasks or duties that the employer believes could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others. This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position. This statute allows employers to lawfully refuse to hire applicants for safety-sensitive jobs or to discipline or discharge employees who work in safety-sensitive jobs if they test positive for marijuana, even if they have a valid license to use medical marijuana. Requirements

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) or by the State.
  • Certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • CPR certification.
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a sterile field.
  • Basic knowledge of surgical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains sterile field, anticipates and provides instrumentation and supplies necessary to perform surgery.
  • Facilitates patient flow through case turnover.
  • Performs environmental activities to maintain asepsis of operating room.
  • Anticipates needs in instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to technique procedure, and special requirements.
  • Maintains correct sponge, needle, and instrument count with registered nurse and reports discrepancies as policy requires.
  • Performs high level disinfection.
  • Develops and demonstrates competency in specialty team cases and can serve as a preceptor.
  • Demonstrates competencies in multiple specialties.
  • Makes changes in surgeon's preference cards per surgeon requests to keep them current.
