Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience as a surgical technologist. Completion of an accredited surgical tech program, the MU Health Care Surgical Tech program, or military training may be substituted.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and experience in all areas of specialty and Trauma (Level I) call.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
  • Assist with the teaching of newly hired technologists and student technologists; Serve as a role model to new employees and other staff members.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff members, and physicians; Adherence to standards including but not limited to unit and hospital policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals.
  • Competent at the unit level.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and correct case preparation.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field and ensure the team maintains a sterile environment independently. Apply basic knowledge of instrumentations to several cases. Correct any deficiencies at the case level.
  • Perform technical duties involving care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment in the operating rooms to provide a safe and effective environment.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
