The Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional who supports the surgical team in delivering care to patients in a variety of settings. They assist in preparing surgical areas, managing instruments and supplies, and ensuring sterile technique under the supervision of licensed surgical staff. This role is suitable for individuals beginning their careers in surgical services or transitioning from other clinical or patient care roles.

Requirements

BLS (Basic Life Support) Issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 60 days of hire
NCCT-TS-C (Tech in Surgery-Certified) OR AST-CST (Certified Surgical Tech)
Experience in a direct patient care or clinical support role (e.g., medical assistant, patient care tech, EMT, or similar)

Responsibilities

Assists in maintaining the sterile field under supervision.
Demonstrates an understanding of the procedure and supports surgical team needs.
Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
Scrubs, gowns, and gloves appropriately.
Sets up sterile tables with instruments and supplies under guidance.
Performs instrument and sponge counts with the circulator.
Passes instruments during surgery.
Aids in cleaning and preparing instruments for sterilization.
Supports terminal cleaning of rooms and preparation for the next procedure.
May retrieve and transport medications (no preparation or administration).
For Lakeside Women's Hospital and INTEGRIS Health Grove Hospital Ensures all instruments are decontaminated and stored using the appropriate processes, solutions, supplies and equipment.
Completes the necessary procedures for sterilization per manufacturer instructions and hospital procedures.
Responsible for preparing and documenting sterilization process charts, logs and records per hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Completes high level disinfectant process education annually, as applicable.
Reports to the assigned supervisor and Clinical Director.
