The Surgical Technologist, under the supervision of the Operating Room Manager/Director of Nursing and at the direction of Registered Nurses, performs surgical scrubbing. This role involves ensuring the proper care and maintenance of all surgical instrumentation and equipment while maintaining a sterile field. The technologist must demonstrate strong knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control, and all equipment, instruments, procedures, and supplies used in the operating room. Key personal attributes include professionalism, accountability, self-direction, receptiveness to change, and the ability to work effectively under stress, demanding patience, stamina, endurance, and tact. The role requires fostering teamwork, assisting others, setting priorities, and ensuring consistent follow-through. The technologist is also expected to maintain patient, co-worker, and surgery center confidentiality, adhere to HIPAA policy, report violations, and fulfill annual continuing education requirements. They must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care, assess patient requirements, utilize recognized communication channels, and maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members.
