In partnership with Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Nursing, and Surgery, our department performs more than 15,000 surgical cases each year across 30+ operating rooms in the Main Building and Mays Clinic. The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in supporting surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, ensuring all instruments and equipment are ready and functioning, and assisting the surgical team to deliver safe, efficient, and exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist By the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Upon Hire
  • New graduate must obtain and maintain certification within 180 Days
  • Employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility prior to September 1, 2009. Upon Hire
  • Completed appropriate training program for surgical technology in the military of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service. Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program
  • at least one year of Surgical Technologist experience

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify and immediately address breaks in sterile technique or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain organization and workflow efficiency to ensure on-time case starts and timely turnovers.
  • Handle, store, and maintain surgical supplies and equipment properly.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by cross-training and supporting various surgical specialties.
  • Prepare, set up, and verify surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's and team's needs to ensure smooth, efficient procedures.
  • Maintain strict aseptic technique and perform accurate sponge, instrument, and sharps counts.
  • Label, handle, and transport specimens according to established protocols.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the surgical team.
  • Support a positive, respectful, and professional work environment.
  • Assist colleagues as needed and recognize their contributions to team success.
  • Pursue learning opportunities to enhance clinical expertise and stay current with evolving surgical practices.
