About The Position

Minimum Education Completion of Surgical Technology Program. Minimum Work Experience Prefer minimum of 1 year in OR. REQUIRED SKILLS Certified Surgical Technologist preferred Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross OR obtain Basic Life Support certification through Colquitt Regional Medical Center Educational Services upon hire. FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients with or without assistance, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts, carries and pushes items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to meet job requirements. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids; working with or near chemicals; working near flames; working with hazardous waste; wearing protective clothing and/or equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Plans and prepares for surgical procedures; assembling instruments, supplies and equipment and ensuring equipment/instruments are clean and functional prior to procedure. Practices principles of aseptic techniques ensuring compliance with all procedures in place to ensure sterility of surgical field. Arranges mayo and back table in organized manner. Anticipates needs of surgeon by being attentive to progress of the procedure. Handles specimens according to hospital policy/procedure. Counts sponges, needles, sharps and instruments according to hospital policy/procedure. Assists in orientation of new employees. Maintains knowledge and competency that reflects current surgical practice standards. Evaluates and identifies factors and unsafe patient care practices and intervenes appropriately and reports to appropriate supervisor. Performs any and all other job duties as assigned by supervisor for completion of job requirements. Annual completion of World Health Organization hand hygiene education and training and its relationship to infection control in addition to physical demonstration and understanding of compliance monitoring.
