Requirements

  • 1 year Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
  • Women’s Services experience preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or completion of a military training program for surgical technologists.
  • OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and
  • As of January 1, 2017, in lieu of the formal Surg Tech training program requirement, may substitute professional experience if candidate has worked 2 out of last 3 years as Surgical Technologist.
  • Basic level patient care skills per requirements of the position.
  • Basic medical terminology.
  • Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
  • Ability to understand and apply principles of sterile technique and surgical procedures within the scope of the position
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to a changing environment and circumstances.
  • American Heart Association approved BLS certification required.
  • For new hires after July 1, 2016 not meeting the previous experience provision noted in the Education section:
  • Current certification as Surgical Technologist or certification as Surgical Technologist within 12 months of graduation from Surg Tech program.
  • Washington: Registered Surgical Technologist (RST) with State of WA required.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering family-centered care across Women’s Services units, including Labor & Delivery, Family Birth Centers, and Newborn Nurseries.
  • Assists at the surgical field, passing instruments and supplies to other members of the surgical team.
  • Participates in the preparation and setup of surgical suites, maintaining sterile technique while managing instruments and supplies for various procedures.
  • Provides basic patient care and unit support under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Performs a broad range of essential tasks that support safe and efficient patient care, but do not require RN-level licensure or skills.
