About The Position

As a Surgical Technologist at our Surgery Center, you will use your clinical knowledge and skills to help provide care for patients while they are in surgery. Under the guidance of the physician, you will facilitate and help to ensure that all invasive surgical procedures are conducted safely and effectively. Surgical Technologists will set up and maintain the operating room, which includes but is not limited to readying supplies and equipment, setting out drapes, etc. You must have a complete understanding of surgical asepsis and safety to ensure that all patients receive top quality care. The ability to facilitate the smooth progression of operative procedures with physicians and other care personnel will be essential to your success in this role.

Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited School of Surgical Technologists
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • BLS Certification
  • Knowledge of surgical asepsis and patient safety.
  • Knowledge of sterile processing procedures.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to react quickly and make educated decisions under pressure.
  • Great teamwork skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern surgical equipment.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching required.
  • Ability to manually maneuver adult patients.
  • Normal or correctable range of hearing and eyesight.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience in a surgical setting
  • 1+ years of experience in decontamination/sterile prep

Responsibilities

  • Select and prepare appropriate supplies for the operative procedure based on the physician’s plan of care and preferences and personal clinical knowledge.
  • Set up back tables, mayo stands, etc.
  • Ensure that the operating room is kept neat and tidy throughout procedure to facilitate the operation.
  • Notify the Materials Coordinator of any out of stock supplies/instruments so that they may be ordered and ready in time for the procedure.
  • Observe the procedure to ensure aseptic techniques are being used at all times.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and have hand instruments, sponges, sutures, etc. ready to hand to the appropriate staff member.
  • Account for all needles used and ensure they are handled and disposed of properly.
  • Identify and label all specimens, drugs, solutions, etc. used on the sterile field.
  • Assist with room turnover and ensure that all instruments and equipment used have been sent to the sterile processing room or disposed of properly.
  • Communicate and respond to any problems or concerns.
  • Maintain working status of instruments and equipment. Communicate inventory needs to the Materials Coordinator.
