The Surgical Technologist role is crucial in handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary throughout surgical procedures. The individual in this position plays a vital role in ensuring patient safety and maintaining a high quality of care. This is achieved by performing various tasks and duties that provide essential technical assistance and support to the medical and surgical staff and personnel, both during the surgical procedures themselves and in the subsequent turnover processes. Furthermore, the Surgical Technologist is expected to specialize in multiple surgical service lines and will potentially work with a diverse patient population, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, equivalent education (GED) or post-secondary education
  • Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) credential.
  • Visual color acuity screening depending on the role in specific units.
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program and working as a Surgical Technologist with two (2) years of experience
  • Five (5) years of full-time employment within the last seven (7) years in an Operating Room setting working as a Surgical Technologist

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Certification as a Technologist in Surgery- Certified (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Responsibilities

  • Handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
  • Help to ensure patient safety and quality of care by performing various tasks and duties that provide technical assistance and support to medical/surgical staff and personnel during and in the turnover of surgical procedures.
  • Specialize in multiple surgical services lines and potentially work with neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
