In this dynamic position, you'll work with the Lutheran General Clinical Practice Manager to onboard and mentor new CST students and employees. As the primary point of contact between Herzing University and Advocate Health, you'll facilitate the placement of students in clinical rotations across our Illinois facilities, ensuring their hands-on learning experience aligns with the highest standards of care. The role is based at Lutheran General Hospital, with occasional travel to other Illinois Advocate Health sites. Depending on volumes, may function as a Surgical Technologist as needed at Lutheran General Hospital. Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM.   • Coordinates technical aspects for the surgical technology clinical rotation at Advocate Aurora facilities.
  • Assess surgical tech program for satisfaction, outcomes and continuous quality improvement. Provide that feedback to the school.
  • Partners closely with students to understand their interests, gear their experiences towards those areas of interest and partner with surgery leadership to look at potential opportunities for the students upon graduation.
  • Observe surgical tech students while in cases, to provide guidance, education, and follow up as needed.
  • Will assess educational needs and ensure competency standards are met.
  • Coordinates the activities of the school with School Instructors, Surgery leadership and department staff.
  • Identify gaps in didactic material of current Surgical Technology Programs and providing additional education necessary to close the gap.
  • Will provide support to surgical tech students located within the Greater Milwaukee patient service area, so will require travel to various facilities.
  • Based on volumes, may function as a Surgical Technologist as needed.
  • Surgical Technologist (CST) certification issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in Surgical Technologist position with current operating room experience including but not limited to circulating and scrubbing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Formal or informal educational experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated, well organized, and creative in providing educational experiences.
  • Capacity to collaborate with all disciplines and work with all levels of learners to provide a successful experience in educating the adult learner.
