About The Position

Geisinger is proud to offer a Surgical Technologist a $7500 hiring incentive for eligible candidates, competitive pay rates, up to $5/hr shift differential for evening, night and weekend shifts and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse! The Surgical Technologist assists the surgeon with procedures related to the care of patients of all ages during surgical intervention. They assist in the coordination of treatments with other disciplines, provide basic patient assistance, and connect patients to clinical equipment as needed. The role requires practicing aseptic techniques while preparing for surgery, actively participating in surgical time-outs and operating room briefings, and maintaining an accurate account of supplies. The Surgical Technologist also prepares, identifies, and verifies all specimens obtained during the surgical procedure, assesses wounds, and applies or changes sterile dressings as instructed by the registered nurse. They are accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program.
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience (preferred).
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist within 6 months of graduation from the program.

Nice To Haves

  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Specialist (68D), or Surgical Service Apprentice (4N1XX).

Responsibilities

  • Assists surgeon with procedures related to the care of patients during surgical intervention.
  • Coordinates treatments with other disciplines.
  • Provides basic patient assistance.
  • Connects patients to clinical equipment as needed.
  • Practices aseptic techniques while preparing for surgery.
  • Participates in surgical time-outs and operating room briefings.
  • Maintains an accurate account of supplies including sponges, needles, and instruments.
  • Prepares, identifies, and verifies all specimens obtained during the surgical procedure.
  • Assesses wounds and applies or changes sterile dressings as instructed.
  • Initiates emergency procedures.
  • Participates in the admission and discharge process.
  • Acts as a preceptor for students assigned to the surgical unit.
  • Performs quality control monitoring.
  • Performs additional duties including specimen collection and patient transport.
