About The Position

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to gathering needed supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon preference card. Maintains the sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. Is constantly vigilant to the adherence of aseptic technique by all team members. Is self-efficient in general surgical procedures, select specialty cases and is able to precept new hires. Differentiates between sterile and unsterile items processed by various sterilization methods. Demonstrates a higher level of surgical case preparation by the gathering of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for general to moderately complex surgical procedures. Provides a higher level of safe patient care. Demonstrates a clear understanding of the principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience. Has a working knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy. Demonstrates knowledge of environmental safety practices for patient, self and team at all times. Acts as a preceptor for new staff in the scrub role. Assumes beginning leadership roles under the guidance of a mentor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduated from a surgical technologist training program accredited by CAHEEP/ABHES OR NCCT Approved program.
  • One year of experience required.
  • BLS required.
  • Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT required at time of start date.
  • Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at the time of hire.
