Surgical Technologist - Main OR (Weekend Program)

About the position

The Weekend Program offers a weekend only shift schedule with enhanced compensation. This program is a 12 month commitment to work 48 scheduled weekends in a 12 month period beginning with the first shift worked. Premium paid part-time and full-time positions are available. Starting pay is $26.40/hour plus depending on years of experience (YOE) and applicable premium pay for the Weekend Program. A travel allowance is available for eligible employees traveling greater than 75 miles one way.

Responsibilities

• Gather needed supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon preference card.
• Maintain the sterile field and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
• Ensure adherence to aseptic technique by all team members.
• Demonstrate a higher level of surgical case preparation by gathering surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for general to moderately complex surgical procedures.
• Provide a higher level of safe patient care.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience.
• Have a working knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy.
• Demonstrate knowledge of environmental safety practices for patient, self, and team at all times.
• Act as a preceptor for new staff in the scrub role.
• Assume beginning leadership roles under the guidance of a mentor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduated from a surgical technologist training program accredited by CAHEEP/ABHES or NCCT Approved program.
• One year of experience required.
• BLS required.
• Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT required at time of start date.
• Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at the time of hire.
