Surgical technologists (ST) are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the medical team who assist in the preparation and care of the surgical patient within the operating room. The ST collaborates with nursing, anesthesia, and other surgical personnel to facilitate a safe and sterile environment. Surgical Technologists posses the theory and application of the principles of aseptic and sterile technique to combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technology to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Surgical Technologist III's demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills and serve as a clinical resource person to staff and surgeons. Surgical Technologist IIIs must have acquired the necessary knowledge, judgment, and skills specific to the expanded role of the Surgical Technologist I and Surgical Technologist II.
