About The Position

The Surgical Technologist II at Sharp Memorial Hospital is responsible for facilitating the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. This includes ensuring the operating room environment is safe, that equipment is functioning properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The role requires clinical expertise in the roles of scrub surgical technologist.

Requirements

  • 3 Years Experience as a surgical technologist in a hospital setting.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare).
  • Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistants (CSFA) certification.
  • Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in at least 2 specialties (e.g., spine, total joint, cardiac).
  • Experience mentoring and performing in at least 1 specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the operating room environment is safe and that equipment is functioning properly.
  • Accountable for instrument trays to match the instrument list provided.
  • Update surgeon's preference card per entity specific process.
  • Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
  • Scrub, gown, and glove for procedures.
  • Set up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for procedure.
  • Perform appropriate counts with circulator prior to operation and before incision is closed.
  • Gown and glove surgeon and assistants.
  • Help in draping sterile field and pass instruments to surgeon during procedure.
  • Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for decontamination when needed.
  • Assist in prepping room for the next patient.
  • Identify any deviation from expected procedure/policy and report any patient safety issues.
  • Participate in teaching and role model the Sharp Experience.
  • Build relationships with clinical staff, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Participate in professional organizations and enhance own professional growth.
